Now we’re able to venture outside, what better time than now to explore the origin of one of the world’s most popular refreshing drinks.
I’m speaking, of course, about VIMTO. The grape, raspberry and blackcurrant cordial, flavoured with herbs and spices and originally sold as a health tonic as far back as 1908.
Did you know that Vimto was originally brewed on the spot where the famous Vimto bottle monument now stands – just across the road from Lookey News!
Whilst you’re enjoying the views and quiet of Vimto Park, you might like to ponder on a world-famous duo, The Chemical Brothers, Tom Rowlands and Ed Simons, who began their musical magnificence whilst studying at Manchester University – next to Vimto park – and their very first performances were at the RETRO BAR in 1989 when they called themselves The Dust Brothers.
If you’re a fan of Harry Potter (and who isn’t) you won’t need a broomstick to transport you to the place JK Rowling came up with the idea. It was while she was sitting on a train that was leaving Piccadilly Station that her mind began to wander as the train (not unusually) was delayed on the bridge nearby. As JK herself recalls, this was when she first came up with the idea of Harry Potter stories which she wrote – in Longhand – over the following five years.
Well, I can’t promise you a game of Quidditch, but there’s always a warm greeting waiting for you at our little corner of Sackville Street & Charles Street carpark.
Enjoy!
